    • The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 has seen a significant increase in participating institutions, from 3,565 to 14,163.

    • The ranking parameters are still not perfect, with five key parameters: teaching, learning, resources (30%), research and professional practice (30%), graduation outcomes (20%), outreach and inclusivity (10%), and peer perception (10%).

    • The peer perception parameter, gathered from subject experts and employers, can be subjective and biased, often disadvantageing suburban or State-run institutions.

    • The NIRF relies heavily on bibliometric data and self-declared inputs from institutions, which can skew rankings.

    • The NIRF booklet on the IR focuses only on outcomes related to regional and gender diversity, omitting data on students who are economically and socially disadvantaged and with disabilities.

    • Only Jawaharlal Nehru University and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, are among the top 10 institutions with OI scores above 70.

    • The NIRF needs to expand the scope of OI to include institutional adherence to communal reservation policies in faculty recruitment.

    • The IR should address deep-rooted issues such as regional imbalances, faculty shortages, and the need for legacy institutions to mentor emerging ones.

    • Action against institutions that submit false data is necessary to prevent the NIRF from becoming a mere ranking platform.

education equity in India is important topic for Civil service exam (WBCS).
