Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Chhagan Bhujbal’s Legal Concerns Over Maratha Reservation Government Resolution

• Chhagan Bhujbal, an OBC leader, has written to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, expressing legal concerns over the Maratha reservation government resolution (GR).

• He demanded the GR be withdrawn or cancelled, citing the inappropriate use of affidavits for giving Kunbi/OBC certificates.

• Bhujbal criticized the GR’s vagueness, arguing it could lead to a chaotic situation in Maharashtra.

• He argued that the term ‘Maratha community’ in the GR, instead of OBC, Kunbi, Maratha Kunbi, or Kunbi Maratha, is unlawful and could facilitate two types of reservations.

• He argued that the GR issued for recognising the Hyderabad Gazetteer was already achieved by the notification dated July 18, 2024, indicating the GR has no purpose.
