Firecracker Ban in Delhi: A National Concern

• The Supreme Court of India (CJI) has criticized the ban on firecrackers in Delhi, arguing that the ban should extend to all parts of India.

• Chief Justice B.R. Gavai questioned why citizens in other cities and parts of India should not receive the same air pollution relief as the elite in Delhi.

• Senior advocate Aparajita Singh argued that the pollution is not only a problem for the elite, but also affects the people on the streets, including construction workers and daily wage earners.

• Gavai emphasized that the problem is national, stating that any policy to counter air pollution should be implemented on a pan-Indian basis.
