Sikh Organizations Call for Reopening Kartarpur Corridor

• Sikh organizations and political parties are calling for the reopening of the Kartarpur Sahib cross-border corridor, which has been closed since Operation Sindoor in May.

• The closure has led to disappointment for devotees, including Kanwaljit Kaur Dhillon, who was preparing for her pilgrimage to Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of Guru Nanak, in Pakistan.

• The Union Home Ministry announced that the visit by Sikh pilgrim “jathas” to Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of Guru Nanak, will be stopped indefinitely due to the prevailing security scenario with Pakistan.

• The decision to halt the pilgrimage to Nankana Sahib has been questioned by Sikhs, who argue that security should not be an issue only for Sikhs from India.

• The External Affairs Ministry declined to comment on when the corridor may be reopened, and the website for registrations has suspended applications.
