Indian Navy and Royal Navy personnel participate in the inaugural day of Exercise KONKAN- 25

• Exercise KONKAN-25, a four-day maritime drill, has commenced between the Indian Navy and the UK’s Carrier Strike Group (CSG) led by HMS Prince of Wales.

• The exercise aims to enhance maritime and air capabilities of both navies and marks the first-ever collaboration with the UK’s CSG and India’s INS Vikrant.

• Exercise KONKAN has been a biennial event since its inception in 2004, focusing on complex operations such as anti-submarine warfare and air defence drills.

• British warships will visit Mumbai and Goa post-exercise to strengthen defense ties and showcase UK trade and industry.

• British High Commissioner Lindy Cameron emphasized the shared vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific and reinforced the importance of a modern defense partnership, aligning with U.K.-India Vision 2035.

• Commodore James Blackmore highlighted the partnership’s role in maintaining security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

• Following port visits, an aerial defense exercise will take place between the U.K. CSG and the Indian Air Force to enhance interoperability.

• Operation Highmast is a multinational deployment that engages 12 allied nations, facilitating complex military exercises alongside the U.K.’s Armed Forces.
