Sonowal gives ceremonial greeting to ‘Very Large Gas Carrier’ Shivalik

• Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal welcomed India’s first Very Large Gas Carrier (VLGC), Shivalik, at Visakhapatnam port during its maiden call.

• The Shivalik, flagged by Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) on September 10, enhances India’s maritime and energy logistics capabilities.

• Sonowal praised the SCI and Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) for the smooth handling of the vessel during its inaugural LPG consignment.

• Several development projects were inaugurated at Visakhapatnam Port Authority, including:

– Operation & Maintenance of East Quay (EQ)-1A Terminal with an investment of ₹130 crore, aimed to increase capacity by 3 MMTPA and create 150 jobs.

– Smart Video Surveillance Project, costing ₹37.53 crore, incorporating AI/ML-based Video Analytics and IoT for better security and operational efficiency.

– Digital Health Card System, implemented for ₹1 crore, providing digital access to health records via QR/Aadhaar-linked smart health cards.
