    • Bureaucratic obstacles, limited funding, and expensive equipment hinder scientific research in the Global South, yet researchers find creative solutions.

    • Dr. Sammy Wambua of Pwani University discussed these challenges at the Student Conference on Conservation Science in Bengaluru.

    • He highlighted that bureaucratic barriers, rather than scientific ones, pose the greatest difficulties, with unclear policies and delays affecting research progress.

    • Examples from India show similar issues, including long waits for permits and rigid procurement rules that complicate resource acquisition.

    • Collaboration serves as a potential remedy, allowing researchers to start projects using provisional agreements while waiting for formal approvals.

    • Funding issues persist, with delays in disbursement of scholarships and financial support impacting research sustainability and student welfare.

    • Advancements in technology create risks with expensive equipment that may quickly become obsolete; shipping samples for processing can be a more viable option.

    • Dr. Wambua emphasized the importance of South-South collaborations between similar-resource countries to enhance research efforts.

    • An analysis showed that collaboration significantly increases research visibility and impact, highlighting the value of networking and partnerships among scientists.

    • Despite the challenges faced, Dr. Wambua’s message fostered optimism that creativity and collaboration can sustain scientific endeavors in difficult contexts.

Global South scientific collaboration is important topic for Civil service exam (WBCS).
