Maoist Violence Restricted in India

• The number of districts affected by left-wing extremism in India has decreased from 18 to 11.

• The “most-affected” districts have reduced from six to three, with Bijapur, Sukma, and Narayanpur districts of Chhattisgarh now in this category.

• In 2013, there were 126 districts affected, but this number was reduced to 18 in April 2025.

• Since 2021, over 100 forward-operating security forces camps have been established in affected areas, primarily in Chhattisgarh.

• Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that Maoism will be completely eradicated by March 31, 2026.

• This year, 312 cadres have been killed, 836 arrested, and 1,639 have surrendered and joined the mainstream.

• The National Action Plan and Policy, which includes intelligence-based counter operations, has helped in eradicating left-wing extremism.

• The Ministry compared the Maoist insurgency to a Red Corridor, stating that by March 2025, the number of districts reporting Naxal-related violence had fallen to just 18.
