    • India’s initiative to attract top-tier Indian-origin “star faculty” from abroad is a well-timed move due to the crackdown on US universities.

    • The proposal to reverse the brain drain by offering substantial grants, operational flexibility, and lab infrastructure to returning scholars could elevate Indian research in STEM disciplines.

    • India has a history of collaboration with industries led by Indian-origin business leaders, such as Google’s $15 billion investment in an Al data hub in Andhra Pradesh.

    • To build a globally competitive knowledge economy, India must strengthen its academic ecosystem at home.

    • Recognizing India’s solid foundation in institutions like IITs, IISC, ISI, TIFR, and newer centres like the IISERS and CMI, reintegration schemes must be bolstered with sustained investment, transparent governance, and genuine academic autonomy.

    • India’s ambition must be broader than strategic STEM nationalism, embracing interdisciplinary spaces for true innovation.

    • The government’s emphasis on AI, quantum computing, and biotech must also support for the humanities and social sciences.

    • Addressing a broader question of openness is crucial, as episodes like the deportation of scholars send a dispiriting message about how India treats academic inquiry that doesn’t align with official narratives.

STEM education India is important topic for Civil service exam (WBCS).
