Kerala’s Decision to Sign Up for PM SHRI Scheme

• Kerala’s Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty describes the decision to sign up for the PM School for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme as a “tactical” move to counter the Centre’s denial of school education funds to the State.

• Despite opposition from the Communist Party of India (CPI), the government remains committed to implementing Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s agenda through education.

• The PM SHRI scheme will end by March 2027, bringing arrears due to Samagra Shiksha Kerala and two years of PM SHRI funds to ₹1,476.13 crore.

• Sivankutty refutes criticism that signing up for PM SHRI implies acceptance of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, stating that the Union government declared in October 2022 that the objective of Samagra Shiksha was to help implement the NEP.
