A security evaluation resulted in the closure of nearly half of important tourist destinations in Kashmir.
• Over half of Kashmir’s major tourist sites have been closed due to a security audit.
• Of the 89 tourist destinations audited, 49 have been closed to tourists.
• Only destinations with multi-tier security cover are allowed to host tourists.
• The closures are a short-term measure and will be lifted once areas are declared secure.
• In north Kashmir, Gurez, Bangus valley, Baba Reshi, and Kaman Post are closed.
• In Srinagar, 16 sites have been identified as no-go areas for tourists.
• In central Kashmir, Naranag, Yousmarg, Toisamaidan, Aharbal, and Kousarenag are closed.
• In south Kashmir, Sun Temple at Kehribal, Verinag, Sinthan Top, and Margan Top have also been closed
