Advocate tosses documents at the CJI-led Bench, raises slogan

• An object resembling a sheaf of papers was thrown at the Supreme Court Bench, including Chief Justice Gavai and Justice K. Vinod Chandran, during a hearing.

• The incident occurred shortly after the court reopened following a week-long holiday, and while advocate Shivam Singh was mentioning his case.

• The judges initially reacted with surprise but quickly urged the lawyers to ignore the distraction and continue.

• The individual responsible, advocate Rakesh Kishore, shouted slogans before being escorted out by security.

• This incident is believed to be linked to backlash against the Chief Justice’s remarks on the restoration of a Vishnu idol, which sparked social media controversy.

• The Supreme Court Bar Association condemned the act as an attack on judicial independence and decorum.

• The Bar Council of India issued an interim suspension order against Mr. Kishore under the Advocates Act, 1961, after he attempted to hurl his shoes in court.

• The Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association expressed disapproval, stating such behavior undermines the respect essential between the Bench and the Bar.
