• Despite British and American trade interest, the U.S. emerged victorious in its bid for Alaska in 1867.

• The discovery of natural gas reserves and rare earth minerals changed public perception, leading to Alaska becoming the 49th State of the U.S. in 1959.

• Alaska’s Russian past persists in the region, with Orthodox churches and local dialects.

• Anchorage, a strategically important region, was chosen as the venue for the Putin-Trump meet due to its imperial Russian past.
