Assam Chief Minister Sarma criticizes Pakistan for creating a “manufactured threat” narrative about China’s control over the Brahmaputra’s water flow. He clarifies that China has not announced any such move, but it could help mitigate annual Assam floods. Sarma argues that China contributes only 30-35% of the Brahmaputra’s total flow, with the remaining 65-70% generated within India. The Brahmaputra is a rain-fed Indian river system, not a river dependent on upstream sources. The flow at the India-China border is approximately 2,000-3,000 m³/s, while in Assam, it swells to 15,000-20,000 m³/s during monsoon.
