Bengal Assembly Passes Resolution on Migrant Targeting

• The West Bengal Assembly held a stormy debate on a resolution condemning alleged incidents targeting migrant workers.

• Despite over two hours of protests, the Assembly passed the resolution by voice vote, demanding that “Bengalis be allowed to live with dignity, security, and freedom anywhere in the country.”

• The ruckus led to the suspension of five BJP legislators, including party chief whip Sankar Ghosh, for disrupting House proceedings.

• The Chief Minister advised her party MLAs against approaching BJP MLAs trying to disrupt her speech, stating that no party that wages linguistic terror against Bengalis can ever win in Bengal.

• Mr. Ghosh, who fainted after being suspended, was admitted to a health facility.
