Bihar Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Process
• The Election Commission (EC) published the draft voter list on August 1.
• 65 lakh names were removed from the list due to various reasons.
• The fate of lakhs included without verification documents is uncertain.
• The Supreme Court is hearing objections to the SIR process.
• The existing electoral rolls contained 7.89 crore registered voters before the SIR process.
• The ECI accounted for the 65 lakh “missing names” by stating 22.34 lakh were deceased, 36.28 lakh have migrated permanently, and 7.01 lakh are duplicate voters.
• Claims and objections can be filed throughout August to correct wrongful inclusions or exclusions.
