Soap History and Process

• Soap is a sodium or potassium salt of a fatty acid based on vegetable oil or animal fat.

• The first use of soap dates back to 2800 BC in Mesopotamia.

• Soap noodles are thicker but shorter than eatable noodles.

• Traditional soap-making involves converting triglycerides in vegetable oil base to a fatty acid.

• The fatty acid is refined, refined, and used to make soap.

• The soap is extracted, dried, and extruded into soap noodles.

• Total fatty matter (TFM) is a critical element of soap.

• The soap molecule has two ends: one attracts water (hydrophilic) and the other repels water (hydrophobic).
