Calcutta HC judge Joymalya Bagchi promoted to top court
• Justice Joymalya Bagchi, a Calcutta High Court judge, is set to become the Chief Justice of India in 2031.
• The Supreme Court Collegium recommended his name for elevation on March 6.
• Bagchi’s tenure will be over six years, starting in May 2031 and continuing until his retirement on October 2, 2031.
• The collegium noted that the Supreme Court’s Bench currently has only one Calcutta High Court judge, Justice Dipankar Datta.
