Calcutta High Court Directs Centre to Disclose Detainees’ Places

• The Calcutta High Court has directed the Union government to disclose the designated places where detainees were ‘pushed back’ from.

• The case involves the ‘push back’ of permanent residents of West Bengal, involving serious issues relating to life and liberty.

• The court ruled that the place from which the detainees were pushed back was not disclosed in the affidavits filed by the Centre.

• The Centre’s counsels challenged the petition filed by the father of Sunali Bibi, citing the repatriation of illegal migrants of Bangladesh by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office, Delhi.

• The petitioner, Bhodu Sheikh, has been unable to establish contact with the detainees since June 2025.

• The West Bengal Migrant Welfare Board has assisted Sheikh in pursuing the case.
