    • The Calcutta High Court has ordered a fresh trial in 10 murder cases involving Nandigram and Khejuri during the anti-land acquisition movement between 2007 and 2009.

    • The decision to withdraw prosecution under Section 321 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) was deemed unfounded and invalid.

    • The court ruled that the withdrawal would cause public harm and injury, as post-mortem reports establish that murders did occur.

    • The State government argued that the decision was based on political vendetta.

    • The court emphasized the eradication of violence in society, both pre and post-poll.

    • The violence in Nandigram in 2007 led to the fall of 34-year-old Left Front rule in 2011.
