CCI buys 100 lakh MSP cotton bales
• CCI purchased nearly 100 lakh bales at minimum support price (MSP) from farmers in the current cotton season.
• The company opened over 500 centres in cotton growing areas since October 2024.
• The CCI’s outgo for MSP operations this year was ₹37,500 crore.
• The outgo for the next cotton season (October 2025-September 2026) is expected to increase if more cotton is bought from farmers at MSP.
• Cotton imports saw a 133% jump in value in April-May 2025 compared to the same period last year.
• Nishant Asher, secretary of the Indian Cotton Federation, argues that international cotton is 8% cheaper than Indian cotton.
