CCTV Cameras to Be Installed on 15,000 Indian Railways Trains
• Indian Railways plans to install CCTV cameras in all 74,000 coaches across the country.
• The cameras will be equipped with four dome-type cameras at the entrance of each coach and six at each locomotive.
• The cameras will undergo Standardisation Testing and Quality Certification by the Union Ministry of Electronics and IT.
• The move aims to improve passenger safety by reducing incidents of miscreants and organized gangs exploiting gullible passengers.
• The cameras will be installed in the common movement area near the doors to preserve passenger privacy.
• The decision was made after successful trials in the locomotive engines and coaches of the Northern Railway.
