Chhattisgarh’s BJP Government Increases OBC Quota in Local Body Elections
• The BJP government in Chhattisgarh has increased the reservation limit for Other Backward Classes (OBC) in local body elections.
• The decision was made at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai.
• The reservation limit was previously set at 25%, now at a maximum of 50%.
• The new provision applies to State-level reserved positions, including district panchayat chairpersons, municipal corporation Mayors, and municipality chairpersons.
• The OBC quota will not apply in local bodies with a total reservation for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) exceeding 50%.
