China-India Relations and Dalai Lama Succession
China’s Engagement with India
• China is committed to maintaining communication with India through diplomatic and military channels.
• The goal is to refine border area management and control rules and strengthen confidence-building measures.
• China is also resuming the pilgrimage for Indian pilgrims to the sacred mountain and lake in Tibet.
• Both China and India are working on resuming direct flights between the two countries.
China-Pakistan Relations
• Despite India’s concerns over the Pahalgam terror attack and cross-border terrorism, China-Pakistan ties do not target any third party.
• China’s support to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor in May was not a “borrowed knife” and is part of normal cooperation between China and Pakistan.
• China’s trilaterals with other South Asian countries are welcome and hoped to create other trilateral partnerships.
Dalai Lama Succession
• The issue of the Dalai Lama’s reincarnation is an “internal matter” for China.
• India’s statements on the issue are seen as “interference” and are contrary to the Indian government’s public stance.
