China-Maldives Bilateral Meeting Highlights

• Chinese President Xi Jinping and Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu met to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and the implementation of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

• The leaders discussed progress in Belt and Road cooperation and the need for further cooperation in areas like fisheries, marine research, environmental protection, and disaster prevention.

• Muizzu expressed willingness to work with China on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, housing construction, and tourism, and strengthening coordination within multilateral mechanisms.

• This is Muizzu’s second visit to China, following his call for the withdrawal of Indian personnel operating helicopter medical services and Dornier maritime surveillance aircraft.
