China Urges U.S., Japan to Retain Typhon Missile System

• China has urged Tokyo and Washington to withdraw the U.S.-developed Typhon missile system, which was unveiled in Japan during joint military exercises.

• The “Resolute Dragon” military drills began on Thursday and will last until September 25.

• Japan’s Self-Defence Forces confirmed the missile system was showcased during the exercises, but stated it would not be fired.

• Beijing’s Foreign Ministry called on the U.S. and Japan to “promptly withdraw” the missile system.

• The U.S. Typhon missile system is part of the Army’s long-range precision strike “modernisation portfolio.”
