China’s First Joint Public Observation of Xi, Kim, Putin

• North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to join Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and over 20 other heads of states at Beijing’s military parade on September 3.

• The visit marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the “people’s war of resistance against Japanese aggression”.

• China’s Assistant Foreign Minister Hong Lei stated that the visit marks a new chapter in the traditional friendship between China and North Korea.

• The parade will take place after the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin.

• The event also strengthens the Global South amid the ‘Liberation Day’ tariffs imposed by President Trump.

• China stands ready to work with the Global South for inclusive economic globalisation and world peace.

• Japan’s participation in the event has been criticized for its “anti-Japanese overtones,” but Hong urged Japan to pursue peaceful development and friendship.
