Cloudburst and Landslide in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir

• Seven people, including five children, were killed in a cloudburst and landslide in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir.

• The calamity occurred after heavy overnight rain in the district, leading to an increase in waterbodies and submerging many low-lying areas.

• The deceased were Surmu Din (32), his sons Fanu (6), Shedu (5), Zulfoon (15), and Tahu (2), all residents of Jodh Ghati.

• A mother and her daughter died in a landslide triggered by the rains at Bagra village in Janglote.

• The army has evacuated six injured people to the hospital from Jodh Ghati.

• The landslide also hit Changda village in the Kathua police station area and Dilwan- Hutli in the Lakhanpur police station area, but there were no reports of major damage.

• Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured support to Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on the situation.

• The Chief Minister announced aid from the CM’s relief fund, aiming to provide immediate relief and help affected families rebuild their lives.
