Columbia University to Pay $200m to US Government Over Anti-Discrimination Dispute
• Columbia University has agreed to pay $200m to the US government after President Donald Trump threatened to withdraw federal funding due to its alleged inability to protect Jewish students.
• The $200m will be paid over three years and will also cover $21m to settle investigations by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
• The agreement will reinstate most federal grants terminated or paused in March 2025, and restore Columbia’s access to billions of dollars in current and future grants.
• Columbia will maintain a security force to prevent demonstrations in academic spaces and provide federal authorities with information on disciplinary actions involving student visa-holders and arrest records.
