Congress proposes a law allowing reservations in private institutions
• Congress leader Jairam Ramesh calls for legislation to ensure reservation for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and Other Backward Class communities in private, nonminority educational institutions.
• The Congress cites a recent parliamentary panel report to advocate for implementing Article 15(5) of the Constitution in private institutions.
• Article 15(5) allows special provisions for the advancement of Socially and Educationally Backward Classes, SCs, and STs, including reservation in educational institutions, except for minority educational institutions.
• The Constitution (93rd Amendment) Act, 2005 introduced Article 15(5) in the Constitution.
