• These bacteria were found in the lipid-rich cores of plaques, remaining undetected by immune cells, and shifted to the plaque’s outer layer prior to rupture, where they associated with inflammation markers.

• Previous studies suggested a link between oral health and cardiovascular diseases, noting that untreated gum disease correlates with higher risks for heart attacks.

• Experts propose early detection of gum disease and collaboration between dentists and cardiologists to assess and manage heart risk based on oral health.

• Although antibiotics have failed in treating coronary disease, the study suggests exploring treatments targeting biofilms may be a future direction for heart disease management.

• Public health initiatives should emphasize oral hygiene’s impact on heart health, especially in populations with high cardiovascular disease rates.
