Court notifies Sonia, Rahul of National Herald case
• Delhi court issued a notice to Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi regarding the National Herald money laundering case.
• Special Judge Vishal Gogne stated that Gandhi and the Opposition Leader, Mr. Gandhi, have the “right to be heard” during the cognisance of the chargesheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate.
• The court stressed the importance of contemporary jurisprudence related to the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and the right to be heard at any stage of proceedings.
• The matter has been listed for consideration on May 8.
• The case originates from the assignment of a ₹90 crore loan advanced by the Congress party to Associated Journals Ltd (AJL), the owner of the National Herald, to Young Indian.
• The complaint was filed by senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, alleged a criminal conspiracy involving several prominent political figures.
