Dr. Vece Paes, an Olympic hockey medallist and sports science expert, has passed away

• Dr. Vece Paes, a 1972 Munich Olympics bronze medallist hockey player and father of 1996 Olympics bronze medal-winning Indian tennis player Leander Paes, passed away at 80.

• Born in Goa in 1945, Dr. Paes was a medical student and made his international debut at the Hamburg International Cup in 1966.

• He played for prominent clubs including Mohun Bagan and East Bengal.

• Dr. Paes worked as a sports science expert, providing assistance to athletes from tennis, football, and cricket.

• He managed anti-doping education programs at the BCCI and Asian Cricket Council.

• He was a regular at hockey events, including the Beighton Cup, until he fell ill.
