    Drones to Revolutionize Fisheries Sector in India

    • Union Minister of State for Fisheries and Minority Affairs George Kurian predicts drones will revolutionize the fisheries sector.
    • Drones will aid in managing aquaculture farms, monitoring fish markets, and assessing infrastructure damage.
    • Underwater drones will closely monitor fish behavior in natural habitats, detecting signs of distress and providing real-time data for sustainable fisheries management.
    • The Centre will develop 100 climate-resilient coastal fishermen villages across the country, allocating ₹2 crore per village under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana.
    • The Union Department of Fisheries will install transponders in about one lakh marine fishing vessels, providing a two-way communication system and weather alerts.
    • Information related to potential fishing zones will be made available to the fishermen in regional languages.
