Election Commission of India (EC) Directs State Poll Officers for Special Intensive Revision

• EC has directed state poll officers to prepare for the special intensive revision (SIR) by September 30, indicating the start of the voter list clean-up exercise as early as October-November.

• State Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) were asked to prepare for the SIR rollout in the next 10 to 15 days.

• The deadline of September 30 was set for clarity.

• State CEOs are advised to keep voter lists published after the last SIR ready.

• The EC plans to carry out SIR in the entire country after Bihar, with assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal due in 2026.

• The primary aim of the intensive revision is to eliminate foreign illegal migrants by checking their place of birth.
