Election Commission of India (EC) Urges Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi to Submit Affidavit

• EC Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has issued an ultimatum to Rahul Gandhi, the leader of Opposition, to submit an affidavit stating allegations of voter roll manipulations in a Karnataka Assembly constituency.

• The CEC refused to provide machine-readable voter lists and CCTV footage of the voting process, citing voter privacy concerns.

• The CEC has not taken suo motu cognisance of the allegations, stating that if accusations are made against 1,50,000 people, they should be given notices without any evidence.

• The CEC has not responded to questions about why BJP MP Anurag Thakur was not asked to submit an affidavit.

• The CEC has also clarified that a complaint filed by the Biju Janata Dal in Odisha about last year’s Lok Sabha election was not probed, and the 45-day limit for complaints has also passed.
