EU Pays First €3 Billion Loan to Ukraine
• The European Union (EU) has paid Ukraine the first €3 billion of a loan backed by interest earned on frozen Russian assets.
• The funds are part of a $50 billion G7 loan to help Ukraine boost its economy and war effort.
• The EU has frozen roughly $235 billion of Russian central bank funds since the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
• The EU will provide approximately $19 billion of the G7 loan, with the U.S. committed to $20 billion. The U.K., Canada, and Japan also contribute.
