    First Scientific Finding from Aditya L1 Mission

    • The first scientific result from India’s first scientific mission to study the sun, Aditya-L1, is out.
    • The Visible Emission Line Coronagraph (VELC) developed by the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIAp) on Aditya-L1 predicted the onset time of a coronal mass ejection on the sun on July 16.
    • The VELC, launched by ISRO in September 2023, is used to study the most powerful explosions in the solar system, coronal mass ejections (CMEs).
    • The study, by R. Ramesh, V. Muthupriyal, Jagdev Singh, K. Sasikumar Raja, P. Savarimuthu, and Priya Gavshinde, will be published in the Astrophysical Journal Letters.
