Genocide in Gaza: India’s Response

• The UN Commission of Inquiry has concluded that Israeli authorities have committed genocide in Gaza.

• The finding is a significant development, as leading rights organizations and genocide scholars have already accused Israel of committing genocide.

• The International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court are hearing genocide charges against Israel.

• The UN Commission found “reasonable grounds” to conclude that four out of five genocidal acts have been carried out since the war began following Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack.

• Israel has killed at least 65,000 Palestinians in Gaza in 23 months, many of them women and children.

• The war, prolonged by Prime Minister Netanyahu for political survival, has left a stain on Israel’s national compass and deepened its global isolation.

• Europe is expected to suspend trade concessions with Israel and sanction extremist Ministers, but Israel shows little concern.

• India, once a champion of the Palestinian cause, should use its leverage to help bring the war to an end.
