Georgia’s Political Unrest Post-Elections
• Georgia’s ruling party declared victory in parliamentary elections, causing political unrest.
• The ruling Georgian Dream party won 54.08% of the vote, while a union of four pro-Western opposition alliances won 37.58%.
• The result gives Georgian Dream 91 seats in the 150-member parliament, but short of the supermajority it sought to pass a constitutional ban on main opposition parties.
• The European Union warned that the vote would determine Tbilisi’s chances of joining the bloc.
