Govt. hasn’t said if U.S. will cancel Chabahar waiver.
• The ‘National Security Presidential Memorandum’, signed by President Trump, could impose sanctions on India for its investment in Iran’s Chabahar port.
• The order, titled ‘National Security Presidential Memorandum’, aims to put “maximum economic pressure” on the Iranian government.
• The order directs U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to cut off Iran’s access to all funds, including oil exports, ports, and ancillary businesses.
• Trump has directed Iran to be “totally obliterated” if found responsible for his assassination.
• The Treasury Secretary will issue guidance for all relevant business sectors about the risks to anyone knowingly violating U.S. sanctions with respect to Iran or an Iranian terror proxy.
• The Ministry of External Affairs declined to comment on the U.S.’s latest threat, despite the U.S. deporting a military plane-load of illegal Indian immigrants back to India.
• The Chabahar issue is expected to be discussed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Washington.
