Gross Tax Collections Dip by 3.9%

• Union government’s gross direct tax collections contracted by 1.9% to ₹7.99 lakh crore in 2025-26.

• Net collections also contracted by 3.9% due to higher refunds.

• Gross direct tax collections for the previous year stood at ₹8.14 lakh crore till August 11, 2024.

• Non-corporate tax collections fell by 8.3% to ₹4.43 lakh crore, down from ₹4.83 lakh crore in 2024-25.

• Gross corporate taxes increased marginally to ₹3.33 lakh crore, up from ₹3.08 lakh crore in 2024-25.

• A 9.8% increase in refunds compounded the contraction in gross collections.
