Heavy Rains in Marathwada Region, Maharashtra

• Heavy rains continue to batter Marathwada and Western Maharashtra regions, leaving dozens stranded in floodwaters.

• At least 10 people have lost their lives over the past four days, with over 150 villages affected.

• The Maharashtra Cabinet approved financial aid of ₹2,215 crore to an estimated 31.64 lakh farmers.

• Dharashiv, Beed, Solapur, and Ahilyanagar districts have been worst hit, receiving 65 mm of rainfall, Dharashiv 51.7 mm, and Ahilyanagar 44.6 mm over 24 hours.

• Around 18 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed across the region, while the Army is pressed into service in Solapur and Dharashiv.

• State Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan called the situation “grim” and stated the region has never recorded such rainfall in the last 50-70 years.

• Damage assessment in Marathwada will be done on a war footing.

• Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) leaders and the Congress demanded an assistance package of ₹10,000 crore for Marathwada and compensation of ₹50,000 per hectare.
