In 10 years, India will fence its entire border with Myanmar.
• India and Myanmar to ring the 1,643-km border with an “anti-cut, anticlimb” fence in 10 years.
• The project, announced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in February 2024, has accelerated in the past three to four months.
• ₹114.09 crore has been spent on constructing the fence and company operating bases for the Assam Rifles.
• The technology, developed by Assam Rifles, is designed to deter illegal infiltration.
• Both countries share an unfenced border, with the Free Movement Regime (FMR) allowing unregulated movement.
