Incineration of Union Carbide trash begins at Pithampur plant.
• Incineration of 307 tonnes of waste from the defunct Union Carbide factory in Dhar district, Madhya Pradesh, started on Monday.
• The process is being carried out at a disposal plant in Pithampur, 250 km from Bhopal.
• Waste is being burnt at a maximum rate of 270 kg per hour under the supervision of technical experts.
• The entire waste of Union Carbide is expected to be burned to ashes within 50 to 55 days.
• Emissions from the plant are being monitored through an online system.
• Mercury emissions are being monitored for the first time online.
