India and Bangladesh Maintain Ties Despite Changes
• India’s High Commissioner to Dhaka, Pranay Verma, has stated that despite turbulent changes in Bangladesh, ties between the two countries have remained strong.
• This comes after the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the subsequent violence.
• Verma highlighted the importance of bilateral projects on transport and energy, including the inauguration of a power supply line from Nepal to Bangladesh via India.
• He also highlighted the importance of Bangladesh’s “zero tolerance on terrorism” for bilateral cooperation and prosperity.
• The comments come amid India’s concerns over the targeting of minorities, including the 13.1 million-strong Hindu community in Bangladesh.
• Verma stressed that the interdependence between the two countries and mutual benefit will continue to reassert itself, despite changes in the political wind.
