India and China to Resume Trade via Shipki-La in Himachal

• China agreed to resuming trade through Shipki-La in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh during Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit.

• Trade was suspended in 2020 due to COVID-19.

• Union government initiated discussions with China for resumption of border trade through Shipki-La, Lipulekh, and Nathu La.

• The breakthrough was made possible due to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s letter urging for the revival of the Indo-Tibetan trade route.

• The government also received positive response regarding the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra through Shipki-La.
