INDIA bloc considers motion to remove Chief Election Commission (CEC) Leaders, Gyanesh Kumar, following allegations of’spreading misinformation

• The idea was discussed at a meeting of Opposition’s Parliamentary floor leaders.

• The Opposition discussed continuing protests against the Election Commission after the Supreme Court directed the poll body to publish details of 65 lakh voters excluded from the draft electoral roll.

• Congress leaders suggested the Opposition should move a motion against Kumar for making ‘politically charged accusations’.

• Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal stated that there was consensus in the bloc and enough numbers to move the motion.

• Venugopal also flagged the Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Act, 2023, which provides immunity to the CEC and Election Commissioners.
