India Cancels Consular Camps in Canada
• India cancels several consular camps in Canada, including those for Indian citizens of Indian origin.
• The cancellation comes after violent clashes between pro-Khalistani groups and the Indian-origin community at a consular camp in Brampton, Canada.
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attempts to intimidate Indian diplomats and the attack on the Hindu Sabha Temple.
• The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that despite specific requests, some of the camps, mainly in Toronto, were not provided adequate security.
• The Indian consulate also shared visuals of two camps at a Sikh Centre and Hindu temple in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where over 600 certificates were processed.
• The Ministry spokesperson called on the Canadian government to “uphold the rule of law” and bring those who perpetrated the violence to justice.
