India Committed to Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction
• India’s Principal Secretary, P.K. Mishra, pledges to adhere to the Sendai Framework for disaster risk reduction.
• The framework, adopted in 2015, advocates for substantial reduction of disaster risk and losses in lives, livelihoods, health, and assets.
• Mishra led a high-level Indian delegation to the G-20 Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group meeting in Brazil.
• The first working group on disaster risk reduction was established during India’s G-20 presidency in 2023.
• Mishra emphasized India’s proactive approach based on five priorities: early warning systems, disaster resilient infrastructure, disaster risk reduction financing, resilient recovery, and nature-based solutions.
